Run8's
CSX Mohawk Sub route is roughly 120
miles long. The route features a accurate signal system and working defect
detectors. And other railroads that use the line include Amtrak, MHWA, and the NYSW! There are also many yards included along the route such as Dewitt Yard where there is a large intermodal operation. And we also included many of the large industries along the route so there is plenty of local and shortline operations to keep you busy. |

History
The CSX Mohawk Subdivision is located in the U.S. state of New York and runs from Amsterdam west to Syracuse along the former New York Central Railroad main line. At its east end, just east of downtown Amsterdam, the line becomes the Selkirk Subdivision. It also intersects the St. Lawrence Subdivision in downtown Syracuse and the Fairgrounds Subdivision to the west before becoming the Rochester Subdivision.
It is also worth noting that there are four Amtrak stations along the route and that Amtrak's Empire Service, Lake Shore Limited, and Maple Leaf operate over the entire Mohawk Subdivision. Now that should excite all of you Amtrak entusiasts out there.

History cont.
In 1836, the Utica and Schenectady Railroad opened a line from Schenectady west from Amsterdam to Utica. And the Syracuse and Utica Railroad opened in 1839, this extended the line west to Syracuse. The portion of the Mohawk Subdivision west from downtown Syracuse was opened in 1853 by the former New York Central Railroad as part of a more direct route from Syracuse to Rochester. Then the entire line became part of the New York Central and Conrail through leases, mergers, and takeovers, and was finally assigned to CSX in the 1999 breakup of Conrail.
