Run
8 Train Simulator Basics 101
The
InSimOptions - Other tab
Here
we have the Other tab, and at the very top you will
notice that Run 8 Train Simulator is RailDriver compatible
and very easy to setup. Just plug your RailDriver in
and start the sim, then press F2 and a calibration window
will come up that will let you create your profile for
use with Run 8 Train Simulator. The whole process takes
about two minutes and you do not have to have a HUD
screen up like you do in Microsoft Train Simulator for
it to work. Of course if you do not have a RailDriver
you can still use your keyboard.
Next
we have the "Save Train" feature which lets
you save your train anywhere in the sim or you can save
an entire session which may have many trains and rollingstock
placed all over the route. Some of our test sessions
have over 1900 units in them, and a "unit"
could be a locomotive or a piece of rollingstock.
Then
there is the "Me" feature which basically
lets you enter your crew name and train symbol which
you will want to do when you are in multi-player mode
as these will be shown at the beginnig of any text communications
you have with other players including dispatchers, yardmasters,
work foremans, etc. And if you join a multi-player session
where trains have already been marshalled for you, and
have train symbols already assigned to them, just selecting
said train will automatically fill in the train symbol
window for you.
Below
the "Me" section is the "Train Handling
Difficulty" section. The Foamer/Noob mode simply
disregards coupler breakage, stringline events, and
wheelslip (although the warning light will still come
on) instead you will be given naughty messages. The
physics are exactly the same regardless of which mode
is set. So basically, in Run 8 Train Simulator, it's
time to put on your engineer's hat and actually run
your train. No easy mode in this sim!
The
"Sounds" section is pretty self explanatory.
Next
we will visit the "Misc" tab so click
here to begin.
